Coronation Street legend's return 'sealed' after 14 years

Fans of Coronation Street believe they have worked out who will take over Speed Daal, as Alya Nazir considers selling her share in the curry house.

Fans predict Amber Kalirai's return

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers suspect the new co-owner could be Amber Kalirai, the daughter of Dev Alahan. One person said: "Wouldn't it be interesting if the new co-owner of Speed Daal was Dev's daughter Amber." Another added: "Yes, I liked Amber. Clever funny!" A third agreed: "Yes 100% she was great."

Amber, played by Nikki Patel, first arrived on the cobbles on November 9, 2005, after her mother Ravinder was taken into hospital. She was looked after by Sunita and Dev, and later came to live with Dev after Ravinder moved to Finland.

History on the cobbles

Amber left for university in London but returned in 2011, moving back in with Dev and Sunita. She struck up a strong friendship with Sophie Webster, and on a drunken night out Amber kissed Sophie, leading to Sophie developing feelings for her.

Amber then clashed with Sunita, causing a rift between her and Dev, and left the street in 2012 to return to London. She has not been seen on the street since.

Speed Daal's current situation

Speed Daal first opened in 2018, founded by Zeedan Nazir. It has been run by several characters, including Yasmeen Nazir and Sophie Webster. Currently, Leanne Battersby is co-owner along with Alya Nazir, who took over after Yasmeen left in 2025.

In recent weeks, newcomer Idris Nazir has set his sights on Alya's business, as she told him she was keen to sell up. But fans are certain the new owner will not be Idris, but a former cobbles resident.
