Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) has dropped a bombshell on cousin Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) in Coronation Street, revealing he is actually her uncle. The newcomer, who arrived earlier this year, had been pressing Alya to sell her shares in Speed Daal. When she refused, he shared a piece of family history that left her stunned.
Idris is Alya’s uncle, not cousin
Idris told Alya that his father, Sharif Nazir, had an affair with Yasmeen Nazir’s friend years ago. Sharif later left the family home after the affair was exposed at a party. But that wasn’t his only secret: Idris confirmed that Sharif also slept with his own brother’s wife — Idris’s mother. This makes Idris the half-brother of Alya’s father, Kal Nazir, meaning Idris is Alya’s uncle, not her cousin.
Yasmeen (Shelley King) knew the truth all along, having been sworn to secrecy. Alya tried to call Yasmeen but she was on holiday. Despite the shock, Alya seemed determined not to let the revelation change her relationship with Idris.
Kal Nazir’s tragic death revisited
The episode also harked back to the death of Alya’s father, Kal, in May 2015. Kal died in a fire at Victoria Court flats while trying to save Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney). He and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) entered the burning building but became trapped when the roof caved in. Emergency services rescued Amy and Leanne, but a gas canister exploded, killing Kal.
What happens next?
Idris later told Leanne he hopes Alya will sell her shares in Speed Daal, believing she may feel less loyal to Yasmeen after learning she kept the secret. Leanne, meanwhile, was left reflecting on the fact that she has now slept with both brothers — Kal and Idris — drawing parallels to Nick Tilsley’s past relationships.
