Gary Windass (Mikey North) faces an uncertain future in Coronation Street as his hearing date approaches, and his news devastates son Jake (Bobby Bradshaw).
Next week, Gary tells Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) that he has been given a date for his hearing. Viewers will recall that Gary helped Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) cover up the murder of Theo Silverton, disposing of the murder weapon after Sarah struck Theo with a metal bar. Gary later came clean about his involvement, and Sarah confessed to killing Theo in self-defence.
Gary prepares Jake for the worst
With his fate set to be decided, Gary sits Jake and Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) down to prepare them for the possibility that he may be sent to prison. The boys become upset at the news.
The next day, Jake’s distress spills over when he gets into trouble at school for fighting. Back at the flat, Jake rails at Gary, blaming him for putting Sarah first and insisting that Gary doesn’t care about his family.
Jake packs his bags
Later, while Gary and Maria are at the Rovers, Jake packs a bag and sneaks out. When Gary discovers that Jake’s bed hasn’t been slept in the next morning, he calls Jake’s mum, Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Hoston), who reveals that Jake stayed with her for the night.
Izzy explains that Jake has decided he doesn’t want to stay with Gary anymore, leaving Gary shocked. He grows more upset when Izzy later arrives to collect Jake’s belongings.
Gary begs Jake to come home
Eager to change his mind, Gary meets Jake in the café and begs him to come home. But Jake is stubborn, asserting that because Gary chose to put Sarah before his family, he won’t be coming home.
Maria tries to reassure Gary that Sarah won’t let him down, and that he’ll avoid prison and have Jake back home before he knows it. Whether things will work out that way remains to be seen.
