Fans of Coronation Street are certain a cobbles resident is hiding a huge sex worker secret. Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) made his debut on the ITV soap back in 2025 as the estranged brother of Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Debbie (Sue Devaney). And it’s fair to say it didn’t take him long to cause some trouble.
Not only did he have an affair with Kevin’s wife Abi (Sally Carman), Carl also let Debbie get sent to prison for a crime he committed before discovering that she is actually his mother. And over on the soap recently, Carl’s neighbour and Rovers landlady Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) suffered a horror accident after falling down the stairs in the pub’s cellar.
Investigation begins after Eva's accident
Eva has since been sent to hospital and an investigation has now begun, with both Carl and Debbie being questioned. Carl claimed that he helped Eva tidy up because she wasn't feeling well before heading home himself. However, when Debbie announced that she planned to buy Eva some flowers, Carl produced a wallet stuffed with cash. Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) and Kevin were immediately suspicious.
They feared that Carl could have robbed the pub before accidentally pushing Eva down the stairs. And spoilers for later this week reveal the police take Carl in for questioning over the attack. He insists that he had nothing to do with it, but the pressure begins to mount.
Fans predict the real reason for the cash
But now, fans are certain they know the real reason for Carl’s secret stash of cash. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers have predicted the Weatherfield Lothario could be working as a sex worker. One person said on the platform: “I think that Carl is working as an escort and sleeping with the dates for extra money and that’s how he has so much money in his wallet.”
Another added: “Ohh nice. Like the sound of that theory.” A third chimed in: “I was thinking something like OnlyFans but yeah could be an escort.” Echoing their thoughts, someone else penned: “Yes could be, good thought.” A fifth also wrote: "Good shout, I thought this too." A sixth agreed: "Oooo I like that theory, that would be interesting."
