Ross Wilkes has been unveiled as Weatherfield's latest antagonist after issuing a menacing warning to Cassie Plummer. As viewers of the ITV soap know, Ross is Tyrone Dobbs' long-lost father, having been discovered through a DNA database for Tyrone's birthday.
The Backstory
Ross made himself comfortable on the cobbles after Tyrone's children tracked him down. However, his arrival came after Tyrone's mother, Cassie, had already encountered Ross while drinking at the Chariot Square Hotel, making a drunken pass at him. Ross took offence, and Cassie only realised his identity after seeing his signature on the bar bill.
Cassie had previously told her mother, Evelyn, about an ex-boyfriend who forced her into sex work when she was underage. Evelyn was shocked to learn that Cassie's father had discovered the situation, and she never got over it. She later realised that Tyrone's father must have been one of Cassie's clients.
The Birthday Confrontation
Tyrone has been eager to bond with Ross, and Tracy Barlow has grown close to him, while Cassie has tried to get rid of him. Her attempts to expose him failed after she changed her story at the Rovers, following Ross overhearing her phone call.
During Wednesday's (July 29) episode, the Dobbs family celebrated Ross's birthday. As Fiz organised a party, Cassie watched in horror before snapping and revealing Ross's past. Tyrone and Tracy were horrified, and Ross offered a fake apology to Cassie, begging to make things work. Cassie accepted, but Ross later cornered her in the ginnel, threatening her to keep quiet if she wanted to live.
