ITV soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale face more scheduling disruption this summer, this time due to the English Football League Cup. After the World Cup caused chaos with double episodes, missing episodes and Sunday airings, fans hoped for a return to normal. However, the EFL Cup will cause further changes, though not as extensive as July's tournament.
Friday episodes cancelled
No episodes of either soap will air tonight, Friday, August 7, as they have been replaced by EFL Cup coverage featuring Middlesbrough vs Wrexham. The missing episodes will instead be shown on Sunday, August 9.
Further disruption is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, when both soaps will be absent again to make way for a pre-season friendly between Manchester United and Leeds United.
Coronation Street Sunday spoilers
In Sunday's Coronation Street, Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) remains torn between her loyalty to Speed Daal and her legal career. After clashes with Ollie Driscoll (Raphael Akuwudike) and an incident involving waiter Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) and Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) renews his offer to take over the restaurant, leaving Alya considering offloading it.
At the Metcalfe residence, Tim and Sally (Joe Duttine and Sally Dynevor) gain an unwanted lodger when Tim's cousin Richie (Nathan Sussex) returns after being thrown out by his wife.
Emmerdale Sunday spoilers
In Emmerdale, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) confronts Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), demanding a full confession. Despite Todd's threats to reveal the truth about baby Leyla's parentage, Charity stands firm and brands Todd a rapist, unaware that someone has entered the cottage and overheard everything.
Elsewhere, Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) convinces Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) to run away as a family to escape Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), after she blames herself for the violent assault Billy supposedly endured.
