Coronation Street has confirmed a twist in the Lucy murder story, as Richie's instructions to his daughter suggest his claim of self-defence may be a lie.
Sally and Tim Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine) are trying to cope with Lucy's (Anya Dewin) behavioural challenges. Believing she is traumatised after witnessing her dad kill her mum, no one has questioned whether Lucy's short fuse stems from being asked to hide the truth about what really happened.
Richie's phone call to Lucy
Tim's cousin Richie (Nathan Sussex) allegedly killed his wife Rachel after an argument. The story told so far is that Rachel was violent, and her death occurred while Richie was defending himself.
When Lucy arrived at Tim and Sally's, the couple tried to gently explain what would happen with her dad. They were shocked as Lucy screamed in Tim's face, telling him she knows they don't really care about her.
It has become clear that Lucy loses her cool whenever she feels she needs to defend her dad. In today's episode, she got into another argument with Joanie (Savanna Pennington) about their parents being in prison. Lucy was desperate to speak to her dad and was eventually allowed to chat with him over the phone.
What really happened?
During the call outside, Lucy found support from her dad. Richie then told Lucy that everything would be fine, as long as she 'sticks to the story'. This suggests the claim that Richie killed Rachel in self-defence is a lie.
