Coronation Street is set to air dramatic courtroom scenes as Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) faces trial for the murder of Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).
Theo was attacked on the night of Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain’s (Alison King and Vicky Myers) wedding in April, with their daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) discovering the body. An investigation followed, led by Lisa and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), as they searched for the person responsible for the abuser’s death.
Suspects and revelation
Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), who had been abused by Theo for months, was initially a prime suspect. Other residents, including Gary Windass (Mikey North) and George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), also came under suspicion.
The truth emerged during a dramatic dinner party earlier this year, when it was revealed that Sarah had killed Theo. Flashbacks showed Sarah confronting Theo on scaffolding outside his flat. When he made threats, she struck him with a metal bar. She then called Gary, whose wife Maria (Samia Longchambon) suspected an affair, to help cover up the crime.
Arrest and confession
Last month, Theo’s blood was found on Sarah’s clothes, leading to her arrest in front of her family. Initially, she tried to explain away the evidence, but with Lisa suspecting Gary’s involvement, Sarah confessed to the killing.
Kit, however, is determined to ensure Sarah doesn’t receive a long prison sentence, and is focused on documenting Gary’s role in the cover-up. Whether his plan succeeds remains to be seen, but filming pictures confirm a trial is underway.
Filming at the courthouse
Cast members were seen arriving at a courthouse to film the scenes. Tina O’Brien was pictured, along with Jack P Shepherd (David Platt), Alison King (Carla Connor-Swain), Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt), and Julia Goulding (Shona Platt).
The outcome of the trial is uncertain, leaving viewers to wonder if Sarah’s future will be behind bars or if she will be acquitted.
