Coronation Street Alya Mystery Sparks Return Speculation

Coronation Street aired mysterious scenes involving Alya Nazir on Wednesday night, prompting fan speculation about a possible return for her grandfather Sharif. The trainee solicitor, played by Sair Khan, received an unwelcome phone call from someone named Rich, causing her to make a hasty exit from the Bistro with a worried expression.

Earlier in the week, Alya was seen speaking to a stranger in a car, demanding to be left alone. Later, she emerged from a passenger side door, slammed it, and looked frightened, while her boyfriend Adam Barlow appeared oblivious.

Fans on Reddit theorised that the storyline could involve Sharif Nazir, who left Weatherfield nearly a decade ago after his affair with Yasmeen's friend Sonia was exposed. The character was written out after actor Marc Anwar made racist social media posts. Some viewers suggested a recast, while others hoped the plot would not introduce another villain.

One fan wrote: "Why don't we ever hear of Sharif these days? What's to stop a recast?" Another speculated: "Maybe he's blackmailing her to access Adam's files." However, some viewers were unconvinced, with one saying: "I can't see Sharif being mentioned again."

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
