James Corden and Ruth Jones have teamed up for their first new project together since Gavin & Stacey. The duo, who starred in and co-wrote the award-winning BBC sitcom, have now moved over to Apple TV for new comedic drama, The Choir.
Brother and sister reunion
The eight-episode series sees the pair play a brother and sister, Ben (Corden) and Lisa (Jones), who haven't seen each other for several years. Ben has been living abroad, while Lisa has carried on in their small English town where nothing ever happens. But when events take a sorry turn, Ben is forced to return to a life he never wanted, a town he never liked and a family from which he's estranged.
Can the unlikely healing of a rift with his big sister come in the form of a struggling local choir, and the ensemble who sing their hearts out each week?
Star-studded cast
Described as a show about "family, friendship, love and music", other names involved include comedian Tom Davis and Susan Brown. Plus there will be guest turns by major celebs like Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), James McAvoy (Split) and Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent (Iris).
2024's Gavin & Stacey: The Finale became the UK's most-watched scripted television show across all broadcasters and streamers since records began in 2002, reaching an astonishing 20.9 million viewers after 28 days following its broadcast.
Executive producers and release
Jones and Corden also serve as executive producers on The Choir, which will air next year on Apple TV.
