Colin Farrell accidentally swore live on air during an appearance on NBC's Today show, leaving the Irish actor red-faced and viewers in stitches. The 49-year-old was promoting his new film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside co-star Margot Robbie when the incident occurred.
Farrell was enthusiastically discussing his love for crisp sandwiches, a snack he introduced to Robbie on set. He detailed his recipe: 'Tayto cheese and onion, white bread – white, cheap bread – thick butter.' He added that he brought one in for Robbie every morning. When the show presented him with a sandwich, he took a bite and asked if the crisps were Tayto. Upon confirmation, he blurted out: 'I f***ing knew it,' before quickly going silent.
Attempting to recover, Farrell said with a mouthful of food: 'They misheard me!' Host Craig Melvin, clearly amused, replied: 'You said “freaking.”' The segment ended with Melvin praising the sandwich as 'special.'
The clip has since gone viral, amassing over 1.5 million views on Instagram alone. Fans found the moment hilarious, with one commenting: 'I laughed out loud when it happened this morning! Haha everyone's faces.' Another wrote: 'It was a clear accident, but funny too. You can see Colin’s facial reaction. The reporter was trying not to laugh.'
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, directed by Kogonada, is a romantic fantasy about two strangers (Farrell and Robbie) who go on a memory-recall road trip guided by a magical GPS system. The Independent's Clarisse Loughrey gave the film three stars, praising Farrell's 'formidable control over his emotions.'
