Strictly's Chris McCausland Opens Up on Mate Josh Widdicombe Joining BBC Show
Chris McCausland on Josh Widdicombe Joining Strictly

Chris McCausland, winner of Strictly Come Dancing in 2024, has shared his thoughts on the new presenting line-up for 2026. The comedian, who made history as the programme's first blind competitor, claimed the Glitterball trophy alongside professional dancer Dianne Buswell.

Their deeply moving waltz, featuring Chris performing independently, secured the British Academy Television Award for Memorable Moment at the 2025 ceremony. During Chris's stint on the BBC One competition, presenting duties were handled by long-standing hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

Departure of Daly and Winkleman

In 2025, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman revealed their departure from the series. Tess had fronted the programme since its inception in 2004, while Claudia came aboard as co-host in 2014. Following their exit, it was confirmed in May that Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe would be stepping into the roles.

Chris's Thoughts on New Hosts

Speaking about the new presenting line-up, Chris shared with RadioTimes: 'Josh is a mate of mine. He's quick and funny, but also very warm, and I think that's what the show needs.'

'Trying to replace Claudia directly would have been a mistake. Josh is such a different proposition that I don't think people will compare him to Claudia in the same way they might have done if they'd got another female presenter. I think he'll be brilliant.'

Josh Widdicombe's Reaction

Josh, 43, spoke about securing the Strictly Come Dancing presenting role, saying: 'Dancing the Charleston dressed as a penguin for the 2024 Christmas Special of Strictly remains my career high point.'

'So I am giddy with excitement, honoured and a little overawed to be given the chance to step into the biggest shoes in television. I adore Emma and Jojo and can't wait to spend my weekends with them. I'll dust off the penguin costume.'
