Chelsea Detective season 4 returns on Acorn TV

The Chelsea Detective has made its comeback for a fourth season, starring Adrian Scarborough, and fans of Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise are being urged to give it a try.

The series, which follows DI Max Arnold and DS Lavia Walsh as they investigate dark secrets and murders in London's affluent Chelsea, dropped its first of four feature-length episodes on Monday, August 3, on Acorn TV. The rest of the series will be released weekly.

Adrian Scarborough leads the cast

Adrian Scarborough, known for roles in Vera Drake, Gosford Park, the Harry Potter franchise, and Killing Eve, plays DI Max Arnold, a grounded detective living on a houseboat on the River Thames. He is perhaps best remembered for portraying Pete Sutcliffe in the BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey over 17 years.

Scarborough is joined by Vanessa Emme as DS Layla Walsh, Anamaria Marinca as Astrid Fischer, and Peter Bankole as DC Connor Pollock. He also previously appeared in a 2014 episode of Death in Paradise as murder suspect Leo Pascal.

Fans praise the 'quirky' drama

Fans have labelled The Chelsea Detective "quirky" and "a gem" on IMDb. One viewer said: "It's definitely a binge watcher. My family loves this series." Another remarked: "Sometimes we are reluctant to give another British cop show a try, but we are glad we did try this one. It is engaging, realistic and well done. The acting is first class, and the plot lines certainly lead us wanting to see how things progress."

A fellow fan hailed it "brilliant", while another stated: "I love these gentle, quirky detective shows like Father Brown and Death in Paradise. There have been a lot of new ones lately but my favourite is Adrian Scarborough's who has saved many programs from mediocrity."

The Chelsea Detective season four continues every Monday on Acorn TV.
