BBC Breakfast viewers have expressed anger after presenter Charlie Stayt made a blunt remark to meteorologist Carol Kirkwood during Thursday's show. The incident occurred when Kirkwood was explaining a technical glitch on the BBC weather app that erroneously showed hurricane-force winds.
After Kirkwood apologised for the issue and assured viewers that technicians were working on it, Stayt interjected with visible frustration. He said: 'Are you going to fix this Carol? This has been going on for many hours now. Is anything actually happening? Are you going to fix it?'
Kirkwood responded calmly, saying: 'Of course Charlie! Of course, we are. It is a big problem, it's not just one that can be sorted like that (snaps fingers).' She reiterated that technicians were working as fast as possible.
Viewers took to social media to criticise Stayt's tone. One wrote: 'Was there really a need for Charlie Stayt to speak to Carol Kirkwood the way he did about the weather app glitch? ... Going all Paxman on a work colleague seemed a bit much.' Another said: 'Absolutely disgraceful by Charlie ... He shouted at Carol and demanded to know when it would be fixed. Embarrassing and petulant. He owes her an apology.'
The BBC has not yet commented on the backlash. The glitch, which affected the BBC weather app, has since been resolved.
