Pop star Charli XCX has released a new music video featuring an army of clones and a surprise appearance by reality television personality Kylie Jenner. The nearly three-minute video is for "Residue," a track by AG Cook, her collaborator and co-producer on the 2024 album Brat.
The video opens with Charli XCX, dressed in a white tank top, black shorts and leather boots – a signature ‘Brat era’ outfit previously seen in her "360" video. After dropping a cigarette, she dons black sunglasses and walks through a dimly lit warehouse, passing stacks of merchandise in the album’s signature green. A clone crosses her path before she enters a room filled with look-alikes standing before a lit sign reading The Moment. The screen flashes words like ‘365’, ‘girl move on’ and ‘it’s over’ as the clones dance wildly. The video ends with a single figure in front of the sign, revealed to be Kylie Jenner, taking a final puff of a cigarette.
The video promotes The Moment, a satirical film produced by A24 that fictionalises the cultural phenomenon surrounding the release of Brat and Charli XCX’s journey to a world tour. Charli XCX plays a fictionalised version of herself, alongside Jenner, Alexander Skarsgård and Rosanna Arquette. The soundtrack is composed by AG Cook.
The film has received mixed reviews. The Hollywood Reporter described it as “more fan service than funny” but praised Charli XCX as a “natural, engaging actor”. Entertainment website The Playlist also lauded her performance, noting a “borderline heartbreaking” monologue and calling her acting “startlingly good”.
The Moment is scheduled for release in the US on 30 January and will be available in British and Irish cinemas from 20 February.
