Channel 4 has confirmed that Celebrity Hunted will replace The Undeclared War in the primetime slot. The cyber-thriller, starring Simon Pegg and Sian Brooke, returns for its second season after a four-year hiatus, airing on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The series follows a team of analysts at GCHQ covertly working to fend off cyber-attacks on the UK in post-pandemic 2024.
Season Two Finale
Season two will end with a double bill on Wednesday, August 5. Channel 4 has confirmed that Celebrity Hunted will take its place in the schedule on Monday and Tuesday nights, according to WalesOnline.
The synopsis for the series reads: "Set in 2024, immediately after the end of season one, the team in the Malware Department at GCHQ come to terms with a massive Russian cyber-attack. But just as the British finally gain the upper hand, Danny and his team realise that Russia were not the real architects of the attack. They have a new adversary who is set to attack. And not only that, but the team realise that they have a mole in GCHQ."
Celebrity Hunted Line-Up
Those taking part in aid of Stand Up To Cancer include Strictly Come Dancing stars Amy Dowden MBE and Carlos Gu, actor Brian Conley and comedian and actor Lucy Conley, Love Island duo and TV personalities Chris Taylor and Toby Aromolaran, TV Presenters JJ Chalmers and Sophie Morgan, property experts and siblings Scarlette and Stuart Douglas, and stand-up comedian and writer Jen Brister and comedian, actor, writer and podcaster Laura Smyth.
Director of Programmes for Shine TV, Matt Bennett, said: "Celebrity Hunted is the only TV series – alongside its cousin, Hunted – which continues to remind us of the powers of the state in an entertaining and engaging way. This is our most ambitious series yet, beginning with a breath-taking aerial launch amongst the skyscrapers of London, then a daring escape at the end of the run for any who evade capture… with a great deal of entertaining mischief in between."
Hunters and Technology
The star-studded version will see the celebrity fugitives pursued by Ray Howard and his elite team of Hunters drawn from policing, military and intelligence backgrounds. They have the full arsenal of the modern state at their disposal including CCTV, ANPR, Facial Recognition, helicopters, drones, search dogs, cyber investigations and media appeals. Every clue, every sighting and every mistake can mean a capture.
For those who prefer to stick with the drama genre, Channel 5 is currently broadcasting its new crime thriller Benidorm is Murder, penned by the writer behind Death in Paradise, while the BBC is screening The Rapture, starring Ruth Madeley, Iwan Rheon and Ruth Jones.
