Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) looks set to throw everything away in next week's Coronation Street as she makes a huge mistake that could destroy her relationship with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson). After weeks of trying to prove she's serious about their future together, Cassie takes a bold gamble that doesn't quite go to plan. Feeling rejected and convinced she's losing Steve, she ends up making a drunken decision she'll instantly regret.
Romantic Evening Turns Tense
The drama begins with what should be a romantic evening for Tyrone and Fiz, who settle in the Rovers with a bottle of prosecco. Unfortunately, the date night doesn't stay private for long when Steve, Cassie and Tracy arrive and make themselves comfortable at the same table. It's not long before tensions begin to bubble over.
Cassie admits she's had enough of Tracy constantly trying to come between her and Steve, convinced she's doing everything she can to drive a wedge between the couple. Tyrone, however, gives Cassie some food for thought, telling her that if she really loves Steve, she's going to have to learn to accept that Tracy will always be part of his life.
Shock Proposal in the Cab Office
Taking Tyrone's words on board, Cassie decides it's time to stop waiting around and show Steve exactly how committed she is. In a move that leaves everyone stunned, she gets down on one knee in the cab office and proposes to him. Whatever his response, it's enough to leave Cassie feeling hurt and uncertain about where they stand.
Things quickly go from bad to worse when she later spots Steve helping Tracy with a flower delivery. Watching the two together, Cassie can't help but feel like they're one happy family, leaving her convinced she's fighting a losing battle. Heartbroken, she heads to the Chariot Square Hotel to drown her sorrows.
Drunken Mistake at the Bar
As the vodka flows, Cassie starts chatting to a stranger at the bar, desperate for a distraction from everything that's happened. But with Steve out searching for her, the situation takes a messy turn when Cassie makes a pass at the man she's just met. It's a decision that could have devastating consequences if Steve finds out.
Afterwards, a guilt-ridden Cassie returns home clearly regretting her actions. She tells the family she simply needed some time to herself and tries to put the whole ordeal behind her by accepting Hope's invitation to a family meal at the Bistro. To make matters even more complicated, Steve later tells Cassie he wants to forget the drama of the past few days and get their relationship back on track. Rather than confessing to what she's done, Cassie keeps quiet and hides the truth.
Tyrone's Family Troubles
Away from the drama with Steve, Cassie also finds herself caught up in Tyrone's family troubles. While chatting to Ross in the café, she warns him that Tyrone can be incredibly stubborn and isn't likely to change his mind about meeting up anytime soon. But Ross isn't ready to give up and encourages Cassie to keep trying to bring them back together.
Later, an unexpected encounter makes things even more awkward. When Tyrone and Cassie head to Speed Daal to pick up a takeaway, they're surprised to find Steve, Tracy and Ross already sitting together. With little choice but to join them, the atmosphere is understandably tense. However, the evening isn't all bad. To Cassie's surprise, Tyrone starts to thaw towards Ross and even agrees to meet up with him for another chat, suggesting there could finally be some progress between the pair.
Uncertain Future
While things may be looking up for Tyrone, Cassie's own future couldn't be more uncertain. With the guilt of her drunken mistake weighing heavily on her, how will she navigate her relationship with Steve going forward? And with Cassie's departure from Coronation Street looming, could this one impulsive decision be the beginning of the end?
