Carol Kirkwood has confirmed that her last appearance on BBC Breakfast will be on 1st April, ending her 25-year tenure as the programme's weather presenter. The announcement was made during Wednesday's broadcast, where she assured viewers it was not an April Fool's joke.
Kirkwood, who revealed her decision to step down earlier this year, cited a desire to spend more time with her husband Steve. She told presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay that she has only eight early starts left before disposing of her alarm clock.
Reflecting on her departure, Kirkwood admitted it was a difficult choice but expressed excitement for the future. 'It's going to be sad, but it's a really happy thing as well,' she said, adding that she would miss her colleagues and the audience.
Looking ahead, Kirkwood plans to focus on her marriage, continue writing books, and travel. 'We're like ships that pass in the night, so I'm looking forward to that,' she remarked.
