Former BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has opened up about her retirement, saying she is 'living the dream' with her husband Steve Randall. The 64-year-old left the programme in April after 28 years, choosing to prioritise her marriage over her career.
'I loved my job, and it was my choice to leave, because I love my husband more, and we want to do things together,' she told Yours magazine. The couple, who met in 2017 and married in 2023 at Cliveden, now spend their time travelling and enjoying their home in Bray, Berkshire.
Kirkwood described her husband as 'tall, handsome, kind, gentle, strong, funny, charming' and said she could 'wax lyrical about Steve forever'. The couple share a love of travel, having visited Italy and Las Vegas since her retirement, with plans to return to the US, Australia, and India.
The presenter also spoke of her fondness for her home, a contemporary detached house near Windsor, describing it as her 'refuge'. She enjoys gardening and reading, and collects mugs on holiday. Kirkwood, who was previously married to Jimmy Kirkwood for 25 years, said of her second marriage: 'Love is lovelier the second time around.'
