Former Call the Midwife star Charlotte Ritchie has taken on a new role in the Netflix crime drama 'Legends', which has quickly become one of the platform's most-watched shows since its release last week. Ritchie, known for playing Nurse Barbara Gilbert in the BBC period drama, now portrays customs officer Sophie in the six-part series.
Set in the 1990s towards the end of Margaret Thatcher's time as Prime Minister, 'Legends' follows a group of HM Customs officers who go undercover to combat dangerous drug gangs. The show is inspired by the book 'The Betrayer' co-written by Guy Stanton and is based on true events.
Steve Coogan stars as Don, the head of operations recruiting the undercover team. Tom Burke plays Guy, Sophie's husband, who becomes involved in the perilous world of 1990s gangland Britain. The cast also includes Hayley Squires, Tom Hughes, Aml Ameen, and others.
Viewers have praised the series, with one IMDB review calling it an 'awesome watch' and another branding it 'outstanding'. Ritchie, who played Nurse Barbara on Call the Midwife from 2015 to 2019, has since appeared in shows like Doctor Who, Death in Paradise, Ghosts, and Grantchester, as well as the film 'Wonka'.
