Cain left broken as Monty faces devastating death in Emmerdale

Next week’s Emmerdale is shaping up to deliver one of the show’s saddest deaths, with Cain Dingle left devastated in a new spoiler video as the Dingle family faces the loss of beloved dog Monty.

Monty was trapped in a burning barn last month and rushed to the vet, where Paddy Kirk revealed he had suffered smoke inhalation. Tragically, that was not the only finding – Monty has since been diagnosed with cancer.

Cain holds onto hope

In the new spoiler footage, Cain tries to stay optimistic, pointing out that Monty seems to be improving. But Belle Dingle is on hand to play devil’s advocate, explaining that Rhona Goskirk had said Monty’s tumour could spread and there is nothing they can do.

Cain is immediately dismissive, suggesting that vets get things wrong and that Monty cannot tell them how he is feeling. He then brings up his own cancer battle, reminding Belle that when he was diagnosed, the family refused to give up on him – and questions why Monty is not being treated the same way.

Viewers will recall that doctors found a mass after Cain was shot during the Corriedale crossover, and he was later diagnosed with prostate cancer. In true Cain style, he refuses to hear Belle out and storms off instead.

A heartbreaking goodbye

Devastatingly, Monty does manage to communicate his feelings with Cain later in the week, when Cain finds him sleeping on Zak’s grave. Cain realises it is time to say goodbye to their beloved pet and has to break the news to his sons. How will they take it?
