Dean Sullivan, best known for playing Jimmy Corkhill in the Channel 4 soap Brookside, has died at the age of 68. His family confirmed that he passed away peacefully following a short illness.
Sullivan was the longest-serving cast member of Brookside, appearing between 1986 and 2003. He won the British Soap Award for outstanding achievement in 2003 for his role as Jimmy Corkhill, a character involved in one of the soap's most famous storylines—the discovery of a body under a patio.
Born and educated in Liverpool, Sullivan also had roles in Doctors, The Royal, and the short film Forgotten Word. He was a prolific stage actor and director, and hosted a daily radio talk show on Citytalk in Merseyside.
Earlier this year, Sullivan spoke about his prostate cancer diagnosis in an interview, urging the public to get checked. Tributes have been paid by fellow actors, including Jonathan Harvey and Tricia Penrose.
