Bradley Walsh was left speechless on Wednesday's episode of The Chase as contestant Jo from Ripon opted to take a minus £11,000 cash offer, drastically reducing the team's potential winnings.
Jo was the final player to face The Vixen, Jenny Ryan, after teammates Adam and Hassan had already secured their places in the final chase, contributing £29,000 to the prize pot. However, Jo struggled in the cash builder round, earning just £2,000.
Given the choice to move closer to The Chaser for a chance at £46,000 or step back towards home but forfeit £11,000, Jo chose the latter. Walsh was visibly shocked as she accepted the negative offer and then managed to make it back to safety by answering only three questions, leaving the team with £18,000 in total.
Viewers took to Twitter to express their frustration, with one writing: 'I am f***ing rattled after that episode. Will take the -£11k to get back then contribute one answer in the final which my dog could’ve got right.' Another added: 'Minus £11,000. Didn't answer a single question. You just wouldn't, would you?'
Despite the controversy, the trio went on to beat Jenny in the final chase, each taking home £6,000. Some fans defended Jo's decision, with one noting that taking the lower offer 'took the pressure off her.'
