Mark Gatiss's period detective drama 'Bookish' is set to return for a second series next month, delighting fans of Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie. The show, which premiered in 2025, follows Gabriel Book, an unconventional bookshop owner who assists police with crimes in 1946 London.
What to Expect in Series 2
Gatiss, who both created the series and stars as Gabriel Book, has teased what lies ahead. Speaking to Radio Times, he hinted at growing tensions in Book's marriage to his best friend Trottie, played by Polly Walker. 'Their arrangement suits them both, but it’s not without its dangers,' Gatiss said. 'We’ll see a bit of that, and we do see a bit more of it fraying at the edges.'
The new series will be 'more intriguing emotionally,' Gatiss added, with 'some of the secrets unlocked and some questions answered.'
New Mysteries and Cases
In the upcoming episodes, Book investigates the world of spiritualism, helping solve a baffling case involving medium Harold Sneed (Jason Watkins) and a séance full of secrets. Another case takes him to Savile Row, where Inspector Bliss (Elliot Levey) asks Book (Connor Finch) to assist in a puzzling crime at a gentleman’s outfitters. The elderly tailor Maxie Kleinmann (Allan Corduner) confesses to murder, but the evidence points to something more sinister.
Book and his companion Jack are also sent to the German village of Würl by the mysterious 'E' (Simon Callow) to thwart a thieving duchess (Miranda Richardson). 'However, festivities take a deadly turn when Book and Jack uncover secrets of their own in a castle brimming with shady characters,' the synopsis continues.
