The BBC police drama Blue Lights has been officially confirmed for a fourth series, with the entire principal cast returning, including Richard Dormer as Gerry Cliff. The Belfast-based drama continues six months after series three, with constables Grace Ellis (Sian Brooke), Tommy Foster (Nathan Braniff), and Annie Conlon (Katherine Devlin) operating at their limit while facing a new threat on the streets that the police can barely control.
Gerry Cliff's murder trial explored
The new series will explore the murder trial of Gerry Cliff, a character killed off in series one. Flashback sequences will feature Richard Dormer, and the trial unearths a perilous and long-concealed secret that triggers turmoil both within the police force and throughout the criminal underworld. Richard is known for his roles in Fortitude, Game of Thrones, The Day of the Jackal, Gangs of London, and The Assassin. He returns alongside Hannah McClean as solicitor Jen Robinson and Jonathan Harden as disgraced former Inspector Jonty.
Returning cast and their storylines
Sian Brooke reprises her role as Grace Ellis, and viewers will discover whether she passed her detective exams. Martin McCann returns as Stevie Neil, who is living with Grace and questioning his place in policing. Katherine Devlin's Annie Conlon is involved in managing the fallout from a violent assault on a migrant centre, while Nathan Braniff's Tommy Foster struggles to balance the demands of the job with challenges in his personal life.
Andi Osho returns as Sandra Cliff, and the series will reveal more about her background through the Gerry Cliff murder trial. The ensemble also includes Frank Blake as Shane, Joanne Crawford as Helen, Abigail McGibbon as Tina, Dearbháile McKinney as Aisling, Neil Keery as McCloskey, Andrea Irvine as Nicola, Cathy Tyson as Dana Morgan, and Michael Smiley as Paul 'Colly' Collins.
Blue Lights season four returns to BBC One on Tuesday, September 29 at 9pm.
