Netflix's critically-acclaimed thriller Black Doves is returning for a second season, following the eponymous spies-for-hire organisation. The series was renewed ahead of its debut in 2024, and the first season earned Keira Knightley a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in TV Drama. Season 1 saw spy Helen (Knightley) discover her secret identity was at risk after her lover was murdered, with Sam (Ben Whishaw) brought in to protect her by handler Reed (Sarah Lancashire). The finale revealed that Reed's daughter was Helen's children's nanny.
Is There a Release Date for Black Doves Season 2?
An official release date has not yet been announced, but Good Housekeeping reported it is expected to arrive before the end of 2026. Filming for Season 2 started in London around November 2025 and was scheduled to wrap after a 20-week shoot in mid-February 2026.
What Will Black Doves Season 2 Be About?
Season 2 will see Helen's husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) prepare to become Prime Minister. Helen will reunite with Sam. Netflix's official synopsis states: "As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything." Creator Joe Barton added: "I couldn't be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family. To have so many of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favourite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same."
Who Is Joining the Cast of Black Doves Season 2?
New cast members include Ambika Mod (One Day) as Laila, an "acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent sent to help Helen on a mission." Sam Riley (Control) plays Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organisation who offers Sam a lifeline. Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth) plays Mr Conteh, a Black Doves executive with ulterior motives. Sylvia Hoeks stars as Katia Chernov, and Neve Campbell (The Lincoln Lawyer) as Cecile Mason. Goran Kostic (Ant-Man and the Wasp) plays Alexi Chernov, and Samuel Barnett (Not Safe for Work) plays Jerry.
