Britain's Got Talent Viewers Baffled by Avenue Q Puppet Opener
BGT Fans Divided Over Avenue Q Puppet Performance

ITV's Britain's Got Talent viewers were left baffled after the latest semi-final opened with a performance from the puppets of Avenue Q. The long-running talent show, which airs on Saturday evenings, featured the musical number as its opening act, leaving many fans questioning what they were watching.

Mixed Reactions on Social Media

While the studio audience appeared enchanted by the puppet performance, those watching at home were not entirely convinced. Social media quickly filled with reactions, with one viewer posting: "Just turned BGT on... WTF are we watching?" Another echoed: "What a strange start to the show!" One frustrated fan wrote: "What's this opening act? What are we watching... the worst ventriloquist act ever? So dull and boring and just a waste of a slot." Another baffled viewer questioned: "What the hell was that opener?"

However, not everyone was disappointed. Some fans enjoyed the glimpse of the long-running comedy musical. One enthused: "Loving this puppet stuff. It will be the best talent on the show tonight." Another observed: "Avenue Q opening the show is a BOLD choice for 2026! It's been 20 years since they hit the West End and they're still more entertaining than half the human acts we see. Simon's face says it all!"

Finalists So Far

Four acts have now secured their places in the final of Britain's Got Talent, which is presented by Ant and Dec. Singer Matty Juniosa sailed through after Amanda Holden pressed her golden buzzer, while Anastasiia and her dog Salsa captured the public vote with a captivating dance performance. During the second semi-final, Alesha Dixon used her golden buzzer for dance act LMA, and magician Fabian Fox earned his place through public backing. In the third semi-final, KSI was entrusted with the golden buzzer, granting him the authority to fast-track one performer directly to the final round, where they will compete for the £250,000 prize and a spot at the Royal Variety Performance.

Britain's Got Talent airs Saturdays at 7pm on ITV and ITVX.
