The Season 1 finale of Hulu's 'The Testaments' delivered a moment of tenderness amid the darkness: a kiss between Agnes and her best friend Becka. The kiss occurred as Agnes comforted Becka before her wedding to Garth, a match that saved Becka from potential ruin after she killed her abusive father.
Chase Infiniti, who plays Agnes, told Variety that her character does not necessarily ignore Becka's romantic feelings but rather lacks understanding. 'She knows that a ‘gender traitor’ in Gilead is bad, but just like how nobody in Gilead teaches these girls anything, she doesn’t really know what that means,' Infiniti said. 'She just knows that that’s her person in life.'
Becka's fate was sealed when Agnes convinced Commander Weston to intervene, revealing that Becka killed her father to protect Agnes. Weston saved Becka from the Eyes and facilitated her marriage to Garth, who is secretly a Mayday operative. Mattea Conforti, who plays Becka, noted that Becka does not know Garth's true allegiance, but she chose him because he offered a partnership without expectations of romance or motherhood.
Conforti added that Becka's world has been turned upside down, and she wonders whether Becka will develop a relationship with Garth. 'I want her to be able to have more honest conversations about who she is and her identity, like she did with Daisy previously,' Conforti said. The finale leaves Becka married to Garth, unaware that her safest option may also be her path to freedom.
