Bear Grylls: 'No One Is Ever Fully Safe' on His Shows

Bear Grylls has admitted that "no one is ever fully safe" on his shows, as he prepares to return to screens in a new Amazon Prime series. The 52-year-old adventurer will host The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls, featuring cast members of the historical drama The Chosen as they tackle challenges in forests, deserts, and canyons.

Unpredictable Adventures

Speaking exclusively to Express, Grylls said: "I think that one thing I can say with absolute certainty is no one has ever done an episode of Running In The Wild or Chosen In The Wild and felt absolutely safe from start to finish."

He explained: "The wild is unpredictable and we are in difficult places, especially with Chosen In The Wild. We went to some real extremes."

High-Stakes Filming

Grylls noted the challenges of filming in dynamic locations, saying: "We are always mindful of trying to keep everyone safe, but we are working in dynamic places such as hanging off rock faces at, sort of, 600ft up in the air."

He warned: "You can't screw up. And we also have rookies with us, so that's the other thing. None of these actors have ever done anything like this before."

Cast and Locations

The series follows Jonathan Roumie (Jesus), Paras Patel (Matthew), Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene), Noah James (Andrew), and Luke Dimyan (Judas), alongside creator Dallas Jenkins. They will traverse Utah's Castle Valley, Canyonlands, the Ausable River, the Colorado River, the Great Basin Desert, and the Adirondack Forest.

Grylls highlighted the transformative nature of the experience: "The magic of it is that it really does bring people back to the bare essentials. There's no hiding so you get to see people be real and open. I love that."

Premiere Date

The Chosen in the Wild premieres August 9, 2026, on Prime Video, with all six episodes available at launch.
