BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones has spoken of his confusion after a fall during a 24-hour roller disco for Comic Relief left him needing medical assistance. The 47-year-old was taking part in the Wheely Big Challenge alongside co-star Helen Skelton when he tumbled with just half an hour remaining on Friday.
Fellow presenter Sara Cox updated viewers on the incident, describing it as a 'massive fall' and noting that Jones was 'so stiff anyway and just seized up'. Medics rushed to his aid, and it was uncertain whether he could finish the challenge, but he managed to reach the finish line.
The pair raised nearly £500,000 through their Red Nose Day effort. In a social media post from his bed, still in his sporting attire, Jones wrote: 'Just woken up after a few hours sleep. I’m so confused. Did not know why I had this top on, or where I was! It will take a little while to process the last 24 hours.'
He later thanked supporters for raising over a million pounds for Comic Relief, adding: 'I was an absolute mess at the end. I'm [in] a lot of difficulty physically.' He praised the Morning Live team and producer Emma Morris for their efforts.
