Future of BBC's Destination X revealed as second series confirmed
BBC's Destination X to return for second series

The future of the popular BBC mystery-road-trip show Destination X has reportedly been revealed, alleviating fears that it could face the axe. The adventure game show, hosted by Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, is said to be returning for a second series.

Show format and journey across Europe

Destination X follows 13 contestants as they travel across Europe aboard a blacked-out coach. Their challenge is to deduce their destination, with the winner claiming a £100,000 jackpot. Throughout the journey, participants complete various tasks to unlock additional hints. Each episode ends with contestants marking an X on a map; the person whose X is furthest from the true location is eliminated.

After the first series concluded, there was no official word on a renewal. Given the high-concept nature and the millions required to produce it, viewers feared there would be no sequel.

Source confirms return despite delays

However, a television source told The Sun that the show will return. They stated: "The show developed quite a following, and those devotees will obviously be thrilled it is coming back - despite fears it may not. The only downside is that filming won't start until late summer, which means that by the time it airs next year, almost two years will have passed between the first and second series. But in a TV landscape where lots of shows don't make it to a second series, fans will be prepared to wait."

The Mirror approached the BBC for comment, but a spokesperson said they would not be commenting on the story.

Rob Brydon's involvement and comparisons

Rob Brydon previously described Destination X as blending elements from the BBC's other successful reality formats, The Traitors and Race Across the World. Speaking to the BBC in July 2025, he revealed: "I've never done a TV show on this scale before. I loved the idea of it, the combination of having to work out clues as to where you are and having to get on with each other. It struck me as the best bits of The Traitors with the best bits of Race Across the World."

The Gavin and Stacey star confessed he became far more invested in the programme than he had anticipated. He explained: "I was surprised at how invested I became in it; it didn't take long at all to get really fully invested in it. You get involved with the contestants, and you feel for them when they are struggling, and you celebrate with them when they do well. It was a far more involving experience than I was expecting."

Destination X is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
