BBC comedy thriller Black Ops has begun filming a second series for BBC One and iPlayer. The multi-award-winning show brings back BAFTA winner Gbemisola Ikumelo as Dom and Hammed Animashaun as Kay, alongside Akemnji Ndifornyen as gang boss Tevin.
Joining the cast for the new series are Tom Stourton (Barbie, Poor Things), Nigel Havers (Chariots of Fire, Coronation Street), Annette Badland (Heartstopper, Ted Lasso), Ed Speleers (Star Trek: Picard, You) and Cathy Tyson (Help, Death in Paradise).
Series two finds Dom and Kay now working for MI5, though their roles are decidedly unglamorous – someone has to do the admin. Everything changes when Dom meets a charismatic spy named Steve, who offers the promise of more exciting, classified work. Dom and Kay soon become embroiled in an escapade that tests their wits, their friendship and their love of carnival to the limits.
Gbemisola Ikumelo said: “Being back on set for series two is like rediscovering your favourite shoes. A little bit older and stiffer but even more fabulous! I can’t believe some of the amazing things we’ve been able to achieve with this show the second time round.” Akemnji Ndifornyen added: “Series one was so nice, of course we had to go and do it twice! Hugely excited to be going bigger, better and blacker for series two.”
The first series drew an audience of 2.3 million for its opening episode and averaged 1.6 million across the full run. Black Ops (6x30) is a BBC Studios Comedy Production co-produced with Mondo Deluxe for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, created by Gbemisola Ikumelo, Akemnji Ndifornyen, Joe Tucker and Lloyd Woolf.
