BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was forced to apologise live on air to a guest after she mistakenly assumed he was no longer in New Orleans.
Speaking to eyewitness Scott Nelson, who was inside a nightclub during the New Year's Day attack in which a driver ploughed into a crowd, Munchetty said: "I know you are not in New Orleans now but you were there." Mr Nelson corrected her, stating he was still in the city. Munchetty responded: "It's very clear that you are still shaken and you are still in the city of New Orleans now, my apologies."
The attack on Bourbon Street killed at least 15 people and injured 30. The driver, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was identified by the FBI, which said it does not believe he acted alone and is investigating potential links to terrorist organisations. A potential improvised explosive device was found in the truck, along with others in the French Quarter.
Elsewhere, Munchetty has announced a new book titled It’s Probably Nothing: Critical Conversations on the Women’s Health Crisis, to be published in April. The book draws on her own experiences with Adenomyosis, a womb disorder she was diagnosed with after decades of pain.
