Sally Nugent and Jon Kay returned to the red sofa on Wednesday (July 29) to present the latest episode of BBC Breakfast. During the show, they interviewed Emma Roberts, a chaplain from Swansea who has gained fame on TikTok for her resemblance to Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
Viewers React to the Segment
Many viewers were not impressed with the segment, taking to social media to express their frustration. One X user wrote: "#BBC Breakfast so far, Netflix film, TOTP's, and now Mandy Burnham, another day struggling to find news, what a joke." Another added: "This has morphed into GB News getting random members of [the] public on tv lol." A third commented: "Is this what it has become? A lady that looks like Andy Burnham becomes news #NotNews."
Some viewers were more positive, with one person saying: "What a lovely lady with a good sense of humour."
Emma Roberts Explains Her Online Persona
During the interview, Emma explained how she adopted the name "Mandy Burnham" on TikTok. She said: "Nobody in real life thinks I look like the prime minister. So, this is a TikTok thing. I think it's part of the algorithm you know, everyone gets excited and somebody says, 'You look like Andy Burnham.' I couldn't get a word in edge ways."
She noted that she makes serious content about politics and religion, but people kept commenting on the resemblance. She has only been on TikTok for three months and now has around 2,000 followers after going viral. She added: "It's all gone a bit crazy, and I'm on the front page of The Sun. So, you can tell it's silly season, can't you?!"
