BBC Breakfast Viewers Fume Over Presenter Shake-Up as Ben Thompson Hosts Solo

BBC Breakfast faced a wave of backlash from viewers on Sunday (March 29) after a major presenter shake-up left Ben Thompson hosting the entire programme alone. The beloved presenter, who has been with the show for over a decade, typically co-hosts with another familiar face such as Rachel Burden or Emma Vardy.

The unexpected solo stint sparked confusion among fans, with one taking to X to quip: 'Has Naga overslept?' Another replied: 'Not her day, but shame Roger not in, he's great.' The absence of regular hosts Naga Munchetty, Charlie Stayt, Sally Nugent, Jon Kay, or Roger Johnson was keenly felt by viewers.

Ben Thompson's BBC career began in 2001 at Radio Wales in Cardiff, where he produced Good Morning Wales while at university. He later joined the BBC Trainee Scheme and has since become a staple on BBC Breakfast and Business Live, the BBC's daily business programme.

Thompson previously presented World Business Report before it was axed in May 2024. At the time, he told viewers: 'After more than 30 years, we’re going to say goodbye to World Business Report. It’s had quite a few different looks over the years, but it’s time for a new look and a new name. Business Today is what we’ll be called from later today.'
