BBC Breakfast returned to screens on Monday, August 31, with Emma Vardy and Roger Johnson back at the helm to discuss the biggest stories of the day. Halfway through the programme, the hosts checked in with the team over at Morning Live, giving viewers an update on what was coming up when that show aired at 10:30am.
Hosts reunite after summer break
Taking the reins of Morning Live were Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones, who made their return to the BBC show after their summer break. Roger asked the pair: “Have you had a nice summer break?” Gethin replied: “It’s been alright! We’ve missed you though, it is nice to see everyone and be back with you for sure.”
Roger said: “It’s lovely to have you back.” Emma then playfully took a swipe: “You need to dust off that sofa! This sofa has been in use all summer long.” Gethin pretended to dust off the sofa as he quipped: “Look at that Emma, yeah you’re right! We’ll get that sorted,” as Helen pretended to cough.
Fans react to Morning Live’s return
Reacting to Morning Live’s return, one person said on social media: “Love these two and this programme far superior to ITV.” Another added: “Glad to see you back. It’s the only programme I watch.” A third chimed in: “Ah, always good to see you two.”
In July, Gethin wrapped up on Morning Live for a summer break and posted on social media to thank fans for their support. “Thank you for watching @bbcmorninglive!” he wrote, adding: “There’s not a day that goes by where I’m not amazed by the level of interaction. The questions, comments, requests for content, messages of support, suggestions to raise awareness to help with life’s challenges.”
“It’s a real pleasure to work with the team in the pic. Kind humans who are also extremely talented. Live telly is not easy! So as we sign off for the summer… and I put my sports hat on for @glasgow_2026, I think of a phrase I’ve heard a lot recently amongst the athletes competing for @team_wales. 'Pressure is a privilege.'”
BBC Breakfast airs Monday to Sunday from 6am on BBC One.
