Amandaland Returns with Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley for BBC Comedy Series
The BBC has unveiled an exciting first look trailer for the highly anticipated second series of Amandaland, the popular spin-off from the acclaimed sitcom Motherland. Fans of the show will be delighted to see the return of Lucy Punch as the social climbing mumfluencer Amanda and Dame Joanna Lumley as her delightfully snooty mother Felicity.
Life in SoHa Continues with New Challenges
Amanda remains firmly planted in what she considers the "lesser" borough of South Harlesden, affectionately dubbed SoHa, where she continues to juggle the complexities of parenting teenagers, managing her online brand Senuous, and working at her "co-lab" position at Kitchen's Bathrooms and Kitchens. Despite her resignation to staying in this unfashionable area, Amanda finds a glimmer of hope with the opening of a hipster coffee shop, which she interprets as a significant step toward gentrification.
In the newly released trailer, Amanda proudly displays her takeaway coffee cups while declaring, "She came, she saw, she gentrified." This moment perfectly captures her characteristic blend of ambition and pretension that has made the character so compelling to audiences.
School Talks and Social Media Shenanigans
The trailer opens with Amanda stumbling onto the stage at her daughter's secondary school, delivering what appears to be a TED-style talk complete with a dramatic black and white headshot as her backdrop. "Welcome everyone," she announces to the students. "You've probably seen my content and assumed it's another lifestyle brand." During her presentation, Amanda earnestly explains, "I use social media to touch people," showcasing her unique perspective on digital influence.
In another memorable scene, Amanda pretends to finish a run for her vlog, spraying hydration mist on her face to mimic sweat and faking being out of breath before telling the camera, "I've just smashed 7km so you'll have to excuse my appearance." These moments highlight the show's sharp satire of influencer culture and social media authenticity.
Returning Characters and New Additions
The series welcomes back familiar faces including Amanda's loyal friend Anne, played by Philippa Dunne, and Fi, portrayed by Rochenda Sandall. Newcomer Abs, played by Harriet Webb, makes her debut as the no-nonsense ex-wife of Amanda's basement neighbour Mal, portrayed by Samuel Anderson. In a classic Amandaland moment of misunderstanding, when Abs recommends reading The Handmaid's Tale, Amanda enthusiastically responds, "Love anything handmade."
Dame Joanna Lumley's character delivers another cutting remark that fans have come to expect, asking her daughter, "You post a picture of yourself eating cakes, and that's a job?" This mother-daughter dynamic continues to provide some of the show's most biting and humorous exchanges.
Property Dreams and Family Dynamics
Midway through the series, Amanda's attention is captured by a large house coming up for sale in her area. Desperate to purchase the property, she turns to her mother for financial assistance, only to discover that securing her mother's support comes with significant strings attached. Felicity, while appearing evergreen, is beginning to show signs of ageing, suggesting that living alone may no longer be a viable option for her.
The romantic tension between Amanda and her basement neighbour Mal continues to simmer, with their flirty rivalry remaining a central element of the storyline. Meanwhile, Mal develops an unlikely bromance with Abs's new husband JJ, played by Ekow Quartey, while Fi discovers her calling as a professional dog walker when Della, portrayed by Sibhan McSweeney, departs for work on a cruise ship.
Navigating Teenage Challenges
Throughout the series, Amanda and her friends navigate the complex challenges of parenting teenagers, dealing with exams, relationships, and culminating in the school prom for the season finale. Anne remains Amanda's steadfast and long-suffering best friend through all these trials, providing emotional support and practical advice when needed most.
Critical Acclaim and Series Background
Amandaland premiered in 2025 as a spin-off from the popular long-running sitcom Motherland. The premise follows Amanda as she navigates her recent divorce, downsizes to South Harlesden in London, and adjusts to parenting teenagers in her new circumstances. The initial series consisted of six episodes, followed by a Christmas special in December 2025 featuring guest star Jennifer Saunders.
Daily Mail television critic Christopher Stevens praised the sitcom as "wickedly funny" and awarded it a five-star review. He wrote, "The show, a spin-off from Motherland starring Lucy Punch and Joanna Lumley, has become unmissable in the space of a couple of weeks. Anyone who hasn't heard of it probably doesn't live here, no matter what they claim."
Stevens continued his praise, noting, "Amanda, once the school gates bully who lorded it over the other mums with her swanky kitchen and designer clothes, is as pretentious as ever. But she's so much more interesting now that her life has fallen apart. Divorced, struggling to pay the rent in unfashionable South Harlesden and reduced to riding a bicycle after her car is repossessed, Amanda is realising to her horror that she's no better than anyone else."
The second series of Amandaland promises to deliver more of the sharp social commentary and character-driven comedy that has made the show a critical and audience favourite, exploring themes of social climbing, influencer culture, family dynamics, and the challenges of modern parenting with both humour and heart.
