Disney Plus has released the final episode of Alien: Earth, making all eight episodes of the first season available for binge-watching. The sci-fi horror series, set in the iconic Alien universe in 2120, has garnered widespread acclaim, with some fans calling it a 'masterpiece'. Its Rotten Tomatoes score has reached 95%, making it the highest-rated entry in the entire Alien franchise.
The series follows Wendy, a girl with a terminal illness whose mind is transferred into a synthetic adult body. She leads a group of hybrid synthetics known as the Lost Boys after a research vessel, the Maginot, crashes and unleashes a new alien threat on Earth. Critics have praised the show's storytelling, depth, and ability to blend horror with thought-provoking themes.
Empire magazine gave the series a full five stars, calling it 'a rare prequel that enriches the original story rather than rehashing it'. Tom's Guide described it as 'pure sci-fi goodness', while GamesRadar Plus said it is 'ferociously entertaining' and one of the most violent—and best—Alien stories since the 1986 classic.
However, not all reviews are glowing. Metro's Deputy TV editor Tom Percival expressed reservations, finding most characters unlikable and the plot involving synths dull. He praised the production design and practical Xenomorph but admitted the series did not captivate him. Other outlets like Vulture called it 'fascinating but flawed', and The Guardian noted some unclear plot points despite praising the world-building.
