Alex Jones was overcome with emotion during Tuesday's episode of The One Show as her husband, Charlie Thomson, made a surprise appearance to mark her 15th anniversary as host. The presenter, who has been married to the insurance broker since 2015, struggled to hold back tears as she was joined on the sofa by Charlie alongside presenters Roman Kemp and Richard Osman.
“It's very weird, it's weird being this side,” she said, as Charlie sat down next to her. “It's weird being next to you. You're normally in the garden, building the treehouse now.” Charlie, who is rarely seen on screen, told the show: “I'm extremely proud, not just from what she's achieved here but also with the family at home. Balancing those two has been amazing.”
Alex, 47, praised her husband for his support, saying: “I couldn't do it without this man at home who keeps everything running while I'm here and sorts out the children and bed time while I'm here.” She also thanked her family, friends, colleagues and viewers for their support over the past 15 years.
The couple share three children. In 2023, Alex revealed that Charlie had been through a “rough period” after battling Lyme disease and viral meningitis, which affected his mental health. Speaking on Gabby Logan's podcast The MidPoint, she said he was “a shadow of himself” but is now “in a much better place”.
Earlier this week, Alex clarified that she has no plans to leave The One Show, telling Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2: “I'm not leaving, Scott.”
