Alex Jones joked that she wouldn't make it to The One Show's next anniversary after stumbling over her words during tonight's episode (August 3). The Welsh presenter, who has hosted the BBC programme since 2010, struggled to say the word "culminate" while discussing the show's 20th anniversary this year.
Co-host Roman Kemp stepped in with a laugh as Alex exclaimed, "I can't speak!" Roman spoke the word on her behalf, prompting Alex to quip: "I won't make it to the next celebration!"
A beloved evening staple
The One Show launched in August 2006 and has become a weekday favourite at 7pm, blending celebrity interviews, news, and real-life stories. Alex usually hosts alongside Roman, with other presenters including Clara Amfo, Angellica Bell, JB Gill, Vernon Kay, and Lauren Laverne.
Reflecting on the milestone, Alex admitted she "can't believe" she's part of the hosting team. "Ultimately, it's not about us who host it," she said. "The show itself is an institution, and it's really found a way into people's hearts. Especially since the pandemic I think, it's become part of Britain's daily routine."
She added: "I remember my first show like it was last week. In many ways it feels like I've been here a matter of months, not 16 years, because time flies."
Anniversary celebrations planned
To mark the anniversary, The One Show will air a week of special programmes featuring celebrity guests, reunions, surprise moments, and stories that have captivated viewers over two decades. Alex and Roman will lead from the studio, while familiar faces report live across the UK, revisiting memorable stories and catching up with those involved.
The celebrations will culminate with an extended "One Big Night to Remember" anniversary special on Friday, August 14. The One Show airs on BBC One at 7pm on weekdays.
