The BBC is reportedly set to join Aimee Lou Wood's upcoming Jane Eyre adaptation, according to Deadline. The broadcaster is said to be "attached to develop the project" and will act as its "broadcaster-financier," though it has yet to confirm the news.
Literary Classic Gets New Life
The Stockport-born actress, known for Sex Education and The White Lotus, is tipped to play Charlotte Bronte's iconic heroine in the new small screen adaptation from Working Title. The project is being written by Miriam Battye, who previously worked on Succession.
Little else is known about the series, other than that Wood is expected to take on the role of Jane, an orphan who becomes a principled young woman and governess at Thornfield Hall, where she falls for its enigmatic owner, Edward Rochester.
Daddy Issues Success Continues
Wood also stars in the BBC comedy Daddy Issues, set in Stockport, which began in 2024 and follows pregnant party girl Gemma, who shares a flat with her newly divorced dad Malcolm, played by David Morrissey. The show returned for a second series and has been confirmed for a third and final run.
The BBC previously said of the new series: "The new series sees Gemma 18 months on from where we left her in series two, and life has settled into a familiar rhythm." Her baby, Sadie, is now in nursery, Gemma has been promoted at the salon, and Malcolm has ordered a new washing machine.
Wood said at the time: "I'm so happy to be back with David and the brilliant Daddy Issues cast for one final time. Gemma and Malcolm are one of the funniest and sweetest comedy double acts on TV, and I've loved being a part of it."
Morrissey added: "I love doing Daddy Issues so much, such a great cast and crew! So I’m delighted to be coming back to have more adventures with Gemma, Malcolm and the gang!"
Writer Danielle Ward said: "I'm thrilled we're getting to make a third and final series of Daddy Issues. The Moscrips have a special part in my heart and I'll be forever grateful to Aimee and David for bringing them to life in a brilliantly funny way."
