Sky rolls out free upgrade with seven new features for Glass and Stream users

Sky has announced a major free upgrade for owners of its Sky Glass televisions and Sky Stream boxes, introducing seven new features. The update is being rolled out automatically to compatible devices in UK homes this week.

Among the highlights is the addition of Apple AirPlay support, allowing users to stream content from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac directly to their Sky Glass TV. Another new feature is a 'skip ads' button that appears before a commercial break, enabling viewers to bypass sponsored messages with a single press, though this requires the existing £5 monthly fee for ad skipping.

Sky has also introduced a 'next episode' button that appears at the end of a show, letting users continue watching without navigating menus. Additionally, subscribers can now add favourite actors to a playlist to easily find their movies and TV shows, accessible via a 'People' rail in the playlist section.

Personalisation options have expanded with new avatars, including characters like Jamie Redknapp and Nicolas Galitzine, alongside existing favourites such as Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig. For music lovers, Amazon Music HD Audio is now available on Sky Glass and Stream, offering double the quality of standard streaming for Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers.

Finally, users can add favourite channels to their home screen and assign them numbers on the remote, or use a refresh option to automatically update based on viewing habits. The update applies only to Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices, which use internet streaming rather than traditional satellite signals.
