Littler's £20m deal and Netflix show backlash explained

Luke Littler headlines a new Netflix show, Beat Luke Littler, tonight as he attempts to fend off 24 challengers competing for a £501,000 prize. The 19-year-old double world champion will take on contestants in Manchester, with the event broadcast globally on Netflix from 7pm on Friday, October 30.

Former England footballer Gary Lineker will host, with Richard Osman providing analysis. Comedian Lee Mack and social media star Angry Ginge will also feature. Littler must win every leg to prevent any challenger from claiming the jackpot, with the competition ending if an opponent checks out before him.

Challengers and Criticism

Among the 24 contestants are Fallon Sherrock, teenage Scottish sensation Mitchell Lawrie, and Welsh hopefuls Makinley Cooper-Johnson, Tony Cole, and Pwyll ap Llŷr Edwards. However, the line-up has drawn criticism from darts supporters who question why established names were selected ahead of ordinary pub players.

Despite the backlash, Littler remains confident. "I'll be wanting to beat everyone who comes up," he said. "Maybe the first few legs could be a bit nervy, but once I get going then I don't think anyone will stop me."

Littler's Net Worth and Earnings

Littler's net worth is estimated between £5million and £6.5million. In July, he became the first player in Professional Darts Corporation history to surpass £3million in career prize money after defeating Gerwyn Price 18-9 to claim his second consecutive World Matchplay title, earning another £225,000.

His endorsement deals with Xbox, BoohooMAN, and KP Nuts add to his income, alongside a 10-year agreement with darts manufacturer Target, reportedly valued at £20million. "Target has believed in me from day one and I'm delighted that there are many more years to come," Littler said when the deal was announced.

Warning to Girlfriend and Fan Backlash

Littler has spoken about the challenges of fame with girlfriend Faith Millar, a 20-year-old beautician from Wigan. He revealed he warned her about online negativity: "But I just said, 'They're jealous. They want to ruin us.' I just said, 'Just don't look at it and just focus on what we've got'."

The Netflix show has also sparked a row, with critics noting that several contestants have competitive experience. Phil Taylor warned that Littler could face a tough challenge, telling the BBC: "We are seeing people complete the qualifying legs in 11 and 12 darts - with big finishes - so the quality of the finalists is going to be extremely high."
