Apple TV comedy The Studio breaks Emmy record with 13 wins

Apple TV+ series The Studio has set a new Emmy record for most wins by a comedy in a single season, taking home 13 awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles. The show surpassed last year's record held by The Bear, which won 11 Emmys.

Seth Rogen won Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the satirical cringe comedy, which he also co-directs and co-stars in. Accepting the award, the 43-year-old said: 'I could not wrap my head around this happening. I’ve never won anything in my life.' Rogen shares the directing Emmy with his longtime collaborator and co-creator Evan Goldberg.

The Studio, a satire about a struggling film production company, has been praised as Rogen's best work yet. A recent review noted: 'Rogen has made a lot of very funny stuff over the years, but this is by far the best thing he’s ever done.'

Apple TV also celebrated wins for Severance, with Britt Lower taking Best Actress in a Drama and Tramell Tillman winning Best Supporting Actor in a Drama. Both were first-time Emmy winners. Lower's win was a surprise, as Kathy Bates had been the favourite for Matlock.

Jean Smart won Best Actress in a Comedy for Hacks for the fourth time, extending her record as the oldest woman to win the category at 73. Her co-star Hannah Einbinder won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, ending her losing streak, and used her speech to call for Palestinian freedom.
