Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has suggested that Prince William may eventually forgive Prince Harry, despite their long-standing feud. Speaking to the Daily Express, Fitzwilliams said the key phrase is "never say never" when asked about a potential meeting between the brothers during Harry's upcoming visit to the UK.
Royal Expert Weighs In on Feud
Harry is expected to return to Britain next week with his wife Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. While many anticipate a meeting between Harry and his father, King Charles, a reunion with William remains uncertain. The Duke of Sussex and the Prince of Wales have not spoken in years following Harry's exit from the Royal Family in 2020 and the release of his memoir, Spare, in 2023, which included allegations of a physical altercation between the brothers.
Fitzwilliams noted that while reconciliation is possible, Harry will need to work hard to rebuild trust. "William won’t want to meet Harry, certainly not on this occasion. He feels betrayed and doesn't trust him," the expert said. He added that a privately arranged visit would have been a more promising sign than the current high-profile trip.
Security Concerns for Sussexes
The Sussexes' security arrangements have come under scrutiny ahead of their visit. Harry is seeking a safe way to bring his family to the UK, but a review by the Risk Management Board (RMB), part of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), has yet to take place. A spokesman for Harry stated: "The duke continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK."
The spokesman emphasized that the issue is not accommodation but the provision of appropriate protective security throughout the visit. "The independent Risk Management Board that Ravec itself decided was necessary last November has still not taken place. It is therefore difficult to understand how the proportionality of the current arrangements can credibly be maintained without that independent assessment," he added.
Ongoing Tensions
Despite the expert's cautious optimism, the rift between the brothers remains deep. Harry's memoir made several claims about William, including one about a physical fight before the Sussexes' wedding. William has not publicly responded to these allegations. Fitzwilliams concluded that while "never say never" applies, the path to reconciliation will be difficult.
