A massive 60ft robot that featured in a Take That tour has been unsettling locals after being abandoned in woodland at Robbie Williams' former estate in Wiltshire.
Robot Spotted in Compton Bassett
The mechanical figure, known as Om, has been seen peering through the foliage in the hamlet of Compton Bassett near Calne. It has been there since Robbie sold his extensive property several years ago.
The animatronic figure served as the focal point of Take That's lavish £15m stage production during their 2011 Progress Live tour. It was designed to lower band members onto the stage on its giant palms.
Villagers 'Freaked Out'
Kristina Bowen noticed it while driving home to Calne. She said: "Something caught my eye. I thought: 'what's that?'. I've driven up and down that road many times and have never spotted it before. So I stopped the car and there he was - this giant humanoid sitting in amongst the trees, looking down into the field."
Other locals took to a local Facebook group to report being caught off guard. Sarah Spencer said: "When I first saw it I had to turn around and go back to see what I thought I'd seen. It must be as big as a house. It caught me completely off guard but I was intrigued. I thought someone had built a Wicker Man."
Liz Neve posted that she also "wondered" if she had imagined it. "It's such a perfect location as it just seems to emerge from nowhere - and then as you drive alongside it, it seems to withdraw back into the foliage," she wrote. "[But I was concerned that the locals might be building up to a re-enactment of the Wicker Man."
Former Robbie Williams Estate
The seven-bedroom mansion and surrounding 71-acre land was bought by Robbie Williams in 2008 for roughly £8.1 million. He lived there throughout 2009 before moving back to LA and later re-sold it.
Following the 2011 sell-out tour, the first time the group had toured as a five since 1995, it is thought Om was bagged by Robbie Williams. It was thought to be destined for his home in LA but has ended up among the trees in the Wiltshire home.
