Queen Camilla has reportedly played a key role in softening the King's stance towards his younger son, Prince Harry, as the Duke announced he would be relocating to the UK. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent shockwaves around the world this week after announcing their plans to move back to Britain, six years after they left the country for a new life in America.
King's stance and royal status
Charles is said to be happy to spend more time with the Sussex family, but remains adamant that they will not be working royals. The Prince and Princess of Wales have not reacted publicly to the news of Harry and Meghan's return.
William is estranged from his younger brother after Harry levelled a barrage of accusations against him, his wife the Princess of Wales and the King and Queen in the wake of his stepping back from royal duties.
Camilla's influence and family harmony
However, Camilla is tipped to play a crucial role in the Sussexes' reintroduction to life in the UK. Despite facing her own share of criticism in Harry's bombshell memoir, Spare, the Queen believed in "harmony" and is a firm believer in "unity".
A source told the Mirror: "Camilla is a great believer in harmony and is very capable of seeing the bigger picture, which includes the King having a meaningful relationship with his grandchildren and Harry if he wants to."
They added: "The Queen is an incredibly calming influence on the King. Throughout his battle with cancer, she has been his rock and even through the tribulations of the past few years, she has always had a focus – her husband's health and giving him the opportunity to carry on with the work that is important to him."
Private meeting and relocation plans
Camilla was present during Harry's recent meeting with the King at Highgrove House. The private family gathering took place during the duke's five-day trip to the UK in July.
The Sussexes will be making their home in a non-royal residence outside of London – and have already enrolled Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in British schools. It is understood there will be no change to Harry and Meghan's role and status as private individuals and non-working members of the Royal Family.
