The Princess Royal has revealed her tactic for dealing with large crowds during royal engagements: treating interactions like "market research."
Princess Anne, now 76, is among the most popular members of the Royal Family and has often been named the hardest-working royal, carrying out more engagements than other family members. She remains committed to royal duty, attending engagements both in the UK and abroad.
Practical Approach to Public Engagements
While some royal outings are quick and efficient, others draw large crowds eager to meet the King's sister. Anne seems to enjoy engaging with the public but takes a practical approach to making these interactions as seamless as possible.
In a 1985 interview with Terry Wogan, the princess revealed her strategy. Asked how she manages to think of something new to say to each person she meets, she said: "It's rather like market research. You can ask everybody, literally everybody, the same questions."
She added: "Like you have three questions for that afternoon, and you ask everybody the same questions. And with any luck, it shortens the time involved... Doesn't always happen."
Public Admiration and Recent Engagements
Anne's approach appears to pay off, with royal fans adoring the Princess Royal. Earlier this month, the Royal Family shared photographs of Anne attending a rededication of The Guards Memorial at Horse Guards in London, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the memorial's unveiling.
Royal fans were quick to praise the princess for attending the event. One fan wrote on Instagram: "Love her and all that she does. She is defo doing her Mum, herself, her kids and the country proud! Keep rocking Princess Anne! You are defo one of a kind! Could not love you and all you do more!!!"
Another fan commented: "TPR is the hardest-working Royal. No fuss. No drama. Never complained about being a Spare. Just complete devotion to her country, the Commonwealth and her Sovereign." A third added: "Anne is amazing."
Anne's popularity was also reflected in the latest YouGov poll this month, which ranked her in third place based on the number of voters with a positive opinion of her. Only Princess Catherine and Prince William ranked above her.
