Prince Harry reportedly asked his uncle, Earl Spencer, an important question after learning that he would be releasing a book about his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. The 42-year-old is said to have held no qualms over his uncle's book, Swan Song, although Prince William was reportedly furious after learning of the bombshell book.
Although Harry reportedly did not mind that the book was being released just three years after his own memoir, Spare, he asked his uncle whether any of its contents would cause him "embarrassment".
Earl Spencer's Reassurance
According to Charles, who has appeared in many interviews since the book's release last week, he admitted: "Harry was sort of like, 'Is there anything in there that would be embarrassing to me?'"
He then confirmed that he reassured his nephew that nothing would embarrass him, adding, "I said, 'Absolutely not.' You know, I'm very specific about people's privacy."
Book Kept Secret from Family
Also speaking of his book, he added: "I decided not to have anyone involved in the book, so nobody knew about it except my wife and the publishers.
"I didn't tell any of the family until just before it was released publicly, because I didn't want anyone to think, particularly with Harry, who people know I had to stay in the summer, that he was in any way involved in this."
This comment appears to confirm that Harry did not have a say in the book, with the news kept secret from him during his UK stay with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children in early July.
Harry's UK Stay and Book Success
The family of four stayed with Earl Spencer at the Althorp estate, and Meghan shared some pictures from their visit on Instagram a few weeks ago. Swan Song has become the UK's bestselling hardback non-fiction book in 2026, having sold 102,668 copies.
Harry was just 12 at the time of his late mother's death in August 1997, whilst Prince William was aged 15. The book featured some bombshell claims about his former brother-in-law, King Charles, with the monarch having shut down the claims, including that he sounded "elated" just days after Diana, Princess of Wales's death in 1997, in a shock statement last week.
