The Duke and Duchess of Braganza have announced the engagement of their son, Infante Dom Dinis, Duke of Porto, to Countess Anna Schaffgotsch von und zu Kynast und Greiffenstein, Baroness of Trachenberg. The announcement comes just weeks after two major royal weddings in Britain: Peter Phillips and Lady Marina Windsor both married in June 2026.
Details of the Engagement
Infante Dom Dinis, 26, proposed to Countess Anna, 24, in Lisbon in June. The couple posed for a photograph showing Anna's sapphire engagement ring. The announcement stated that further details about the wedding date will be released in due course.
Dinis is the second son of Duarte Pio, Duke of Braganza, and is third in line to the defunct Portuguese throne. The Portuguese monarchy was abolished in 1910, but the House of Braganza remains the prominent lineage of claimants.
The Couple
Countess Anna, born in 2002, is the daughter of Count Maximilian and Countess Marie Schaffgotsch von und zu Kynast und Greiffenstein, according to Tatler. Dinis, born in 1999, is the closest male-line heir to the last Portuguese king, Manuel II, through his father.
The official announcement read: "Their Royal Highnesses the Dukes of Braganza are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, His Highness Infante D. Dinis of Braganza, Duke of Porto, and Countess Anna Schaffgotsch von und zu Kynast und Greiffenstein, Baroness of Trachenberg. His Highness and Countess Anna Schaffgotsch became engaged in Lisbon this month. Infante D. Dinis informed Their Royal Highnesses, the Dukes of Braganza, and other close members of his family. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course."
